Overview

Scotland is a culturally rich nation, and it’s important that cultural activities are taking place and enjoyed in local communities right across Scotland.

The Scottish Government’s Culture Strategy recognises the importance of taking a ‘place-based’ approach to culture. This means giving people a greater say in shaping the cultural life of their local communities. This could be through community choirs, book clubs and theatre groups, live music, or festivals and galas. The Strategy also identifies the role that a place-based approach to culture can play in developing communities.

The Committee wants to know more about what is happening in our local communities. What works well? And what barriers are there to putting on or taking part in cultural activities?

Through its inquiry, the Committee wants to understand:

  • how do national and local layers of government, along with the third sector, complement each other to ensure that communities have opportunities to take part in cultural activities?
  • how is unmet cultural need determined? And who decides this?
  • what does good ‘place-based’ cultural policy look like in practice?

We want to hear your views about how things are working in your local area.

Foir-shealladh

Tha Alba beairteach a thaobh cultair, agus tha e cudromach gun tèid gnothaichean cultarail a chumail agus a mhealtainn ann an coimhearsnachdan ionadail air feadh na h-Alba air fad.

Tha Ro-innleachd Cultair Riaghaltas na h-Alba mothachail cho cudromach ‘s a tha e gum bi dòigh-obrach stèidhichte air àite ann a thaobh cultair. Tha seo a’ ciallachadh gun tèid cluas ri claisneachd nas fheàrr a thoirt do dhaoine ann a bhith a’ cur cruth air beatha chultarail nan coimhearsnachdan ionadail aca. Dh’fhaodadh seo a bhith tro chòisirean-coimhearsnachd, clubaichean-leabhraichean is buidhnean-dràma, ceòl beò, no fèisean is gàlathan. Tha an Ro-innleachd cuideachd mothachail air an àite a dh’fhaodas a bhith air dòigh-obrach chultarach stèidhichte air àite ann a bhith a’ leasachadh choimhearsnachdan.

Tha a’ Chomataidh ag iarraidh barrachd fios fhaighinn a-mach mu na tha a’ tachairt anns na coimhearsnachdan ionadail againn. Dè tha ag obrachadh gu math? Agus dè na cnapan-starra a th’ ann air gnothaichean cultarail a chumail no a bhith a’ gabhail pàirt annta?

Tron rannsachadh aice, tha a’ Chomataidh ag iarraidh tuigsinn—

  • Mar a tha riaghaltas nàiseanta is ionadail, cho math ris an treas roinn, ag obair còmhla gus dèanamh cinnteach gum bi cothroman aig coimhearsnachdan dol an sàs ann an gnothaichean cultarail.

  • Mar a tha feumalachdan gun choileanadh a thaobh cultair gan obrachadh a-mach Agus cò tha a’ co-dhùnadh air seo?

  • Cò ris a tha deagh phoileasaidh cultarail a tha stèidhichte air àite coltach ann an gnìomh?

Tha sinn ag iarraidh do chuid bheachdan air mar a tha nithean ag obrachadh anns an sgìre ionadail agad fhèin a chluinntinn.
