Building Safety

Closes 19 Feb 2025

Opened 31 Jan 2025

Overview

Since 2021, the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee has considered issues relating to building safety and maintenance. It has agreed to hold an evidence session with the Minister for Housing on building safety issues in 2025 focussing on damp and mould, and Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).

In its 2024 tracker report, the Committee noted that it was keen to see what progress is being made by the cross sector working group on RAAC and how those local authorities particularly impacted by this issue are responding as well as understanding the implications for those living in affected properties.

As far as damp and mould was concerned, the tracker report sought an improvement in data collection to enable the Committee to better understand the extent of this problem. The Committee is interested in progress on making improvements to rented homes to tackle dampness and mould.

Ahead of its evidence session with the Minister, the Committee agreed to write to stakeholders seeking views on progress made on these issues.

You are invited to write to the Committee using the link below to offer your views.

The Committee will consider responses and use these to form the basis of questions to the Minister. It may also decide it wishes to hear from you directly on the evidence provided.

Please contact the clerks to the Committee should you wish to respond in another way.
