Housing Lived Experience Panel (Tenants) - Register Your Interest

Closed 1 Dec 2023

Opened 6 Nov 2023

Overview

Scottish Parliament private rented housing panels

Are you a tenant in private rented housing?

By private rented we mean people who are living in a property owned by a landlord and leased to you the tenant. The landlord,  could be an individual, a property company. As a tenant you will either deal directly with an individual landlord, or alternatively with a management company or estate agency caring for the property on behalf of the landlord.

This does not include housing associations or social housing owned for example by a local authority.

The Scottish Government is proposing some changes in the law which will affect people living in the private rented sector.

The job of the Scottish Parliament is to examine and scrutinise the work of the Scottish Government. For example, in housing law and policy.

We want to hear the views of tenants in the private rented sector.

As someone in private rented housing are you interested in taking part in a small group with other tenants to share your views?

This would involve:

  • sharing your ideas and experiences

  • working as a small group to make recommendations

  • meeting with MSPs on the Committee to test ideas

Meetings

There are likely to be three online meetings and one in person at the Scottish Parliament. This will depend upon the group. We anticipate that these meetings will last 1 – 2 hours.  We expect participants to attend every meeting.

Payment

For participating in the sessions, we will offer vouchers or payment of the following amounts to acknowledge the value of lived expertise.  Travel and other necessary expenses will be covered.

Session 1 - £30 - for participation of up to 2 hours

Session 2 - £30 - for participation of up to 2 hours

Session 3 - £30 - for participation of up to 2 hours

Session 4 - £30 – for participation of up to 2 hours

Who will be involved

The group will be around 10 individuals. We are inviting people to register their interest to take part by completing this survey. From this we will select a range of tenants from different areas, types of household and backgrounds.

Please can you tell us a little bit more about yourself.

We want to make sure that we hear from different people in different circumstances. To do this we need you tell us about yourself. We will recruit people to take part in the panel from the responses, using criteria for selection.

How to request to take part

If you think you might like to take part please complete this survey. Unfortunately we will not be able to involve everyone.  If you are not selected for the panel there will be other opportunities to express your views on the legislation when it is introduced in Parliament via a Call for Views.  You will automatically be notified of these opportunities by signing the privacy notice for this survey.
