Overview
The Committee wants to hear from you
The Rural Affairs and Islands Committee wants to hear your views on the Sea Fisheries (Remote Electronic Monitoring and Regulation of Scallop Fishing) (Scotland) Regulations 2024.
What would the legislation do?
The legislation requires the use of Remote Electronic Monitoring (REM) systems on certain scallop and certain pelagic boats, wherever they are fishing.
REM uses cameras, along with gear sensors and GPS trackers, to collect data on the size of catches as well as the types of species being caught.
The objective of the legislation is to improve the capacity to monitor fishing activity in Scottish waters, and the fishing activity of Scottish fishing vessels wherever they operate.
Further information about the instrument is available here.
