BSL Survey - Public Participation at the Scottish Parliament

Closes 30 Jun 2022

Opened 9 May 2022

What we’re doing

We want to make sure that the Scottish Parliament’s work involves, reflects and meets the needs of the full range of communities it represents.

We know that some people are more closely involved in our work than others.

By being involved, we mean people sharing views in writing, online or in person, starting a petition or talking to MSPs about an issue that’s important to them.

Some people never become involved in our work.

We want to understand:

  • why that is the case
  • what we can do to make sure that the Scottish Parliament engages with everyone in a way that works for them.

What we will do first

The first stage of our work will involve asking a wide range of people and communities for their views.

We will do this through:

  • this survey
  • meeting with people and communities from across Scotland

Who do we want to hear from?

We want to hear from individuals and organisations from a wide range of communities across Scotland.

By communities, we mean not only people living in a particular area, but also other types of communities (e.g. people living on a low income or disabled people).

We want to find out how you would prefer to share your views with the Scottish Parliament and/or raise issues which are important to you.

We want to hear from everyone. However, we would particularly welcome hearing from communities that we know are under-represented in our work at the moment. This includes people from minority ethnic groups.

We recognise that within each community, there will be a wide range of individuals with different needs and preferences and so we will make sure we gather views in different ways to take account of that.

What we would like to know

We are interested in finding out:

  • what contact, if any, you have had with the Scottish Parliament in the past
  • when you might want to share your views with the Scottish Parliament
  • how the Scottish Parliament can support you to share your views
  • how you find out what is happening in your local community/across Scotland

How you can share your views

Please complete the survey.

This is a multiple-choice survey, with some space for any extra information you would like to share with us.

This survey is designed to be anonymous so please don’t share any personal information in the free text boxes (e.g. your name or contact details).

If you represent an organisation and wish to submit a more detailed response about how the Parliament can embed public participation, then please click here to return to the main page for this Call for Views.

We welcome written views in English, Gaelic, Scots or any other language.

We would like to hear from you by 23:59 on Thursday 30 June 2022.
